Origin, the comics by era, abilities and recorded feats.

Origin

Steve Rogers was born in New York City in 1922 and grew up thin and sickly through the Great Depression. His father died while he was a boy and his mother was lost to pneumonia in his late teens, but both left him with a stubborn sense of duty. He studied art, and when newsreels showed fascist armies tearing through Europe and Asia he tried to enlist, only to be turned away as unfit. General Chester Phillips overheard how badly he wanted to serve and offered him a place in a secret programme called Operation Rebirth.

In a hidden Washington laboratory, Dr. Abraham Erskine, working under the cover name Professor Reinstein, gave Steve the Super-Soldier Serum and then flooded him with vita-rays. He walked out of the chamber at the very peak of human ability. Minutes later a Nazi spy shot Erskine dead, and because the scientist had never fully written down his formula, Steve remained its only success. After months of intensive training he was given a star-spangled costume as America's answer to the Red Skull, plus a cover identity as a clumsy private at Camp Lehigh, where the camp mascot Bucky Barnes stumbled on his secret and became his partner.

Through the war Captain America fought alongside Bucky and the Invaders, and President Roosevelt later presented him with the round shield that became his signature. In the closing days of the conflict the pair tried to stop a drone plane packed with explosives launched by Baron Zemo. The blast seemed to kill Bucky and hurled Steve into icy Arctic waters, where the serum preserved him in suspended animation. Decades later the Sub-Mariner found the frozen figure being worshipped by an Inuit tribe and flung it into the sea, and the newly formed Avengers pulled it out and revived him.12345
