Origin, the comics by era, abilities and recorded feats.

Origin

Shuri is a princess of Wakanda and the only child King T'Chaka had with Queen Ramonda. Her father was murdered by the colonialist Ulysses Klaw before she was born, so she grew up without him while his brother S'Yan reluctantly ruled as interim king and Black Panther, fighting off a stream of challengers for a title he had never wanted. From early childhood Shuri wanted that title for herself. Over her mother's objections she forced her way into the challenge arena to take on her uncle, but before she could fight, she watched her older half-brother T'Challa defeat S'Yan and win the mantle.

Living in T'Challa's shadow, Shuri was routinely kept out of matters of state by a family that wanted her safe, and she threw herself into the study of nuclear physics instead. When Wakanda's vibranium seemed to be behind a run of disasters, she suggested the metal had been tampered with, and her brother ignored her. She was right: Klaw invaded with an army of hired super-villains and quiet backing from foreign governments. At her research site the Radioactive Man killed a miner in front of her and prepared a nuclear blast, and Shuri, who had gone into hiding, came back armed with the Black Knight's Ebony Blade and killed him.

Taking a life weighed heavily on her, and she spent a period in the United States to recover. T'Challa then trained her in unarmed combat, partly so she could take his place as Black Panther if Wakanda ever needed her to. Hot-headed and quick to anger, she nonetheless grew into a formidable fighter, driven by the same wish she had as a child. The Marvel Fandom wiki credits Reginald Hudlin and John Romita Jr. with creating her; she first appears in flashback in Black Panther #2 (May 2005), and first wears the Panther's costume in Black Panther #5 (August 2009).¹²³⁴⁵⁶⁷

Gadgets and the plane of memory Solo series
In her first solo series, written by Nnedi Okorafor, T'Challa goes missing on a space mission and Wakanda turns to Shuri, who would much rather be building gauntlets and flying gear in her lab. The run gives her a redesign that brings her closer to the film version of the character. In a later arc something begins stealing pieces of the Djalia, and Shuri takes up the Panther role again in a new suit, learns to move herself and others in and out of the plane of memory, and fights to save it and the Great Mound's vibranium.¹¹⁸¹⁹²⁰

When the Galactic Council's fleet attacks, she poses as the Black Panther to buy time, is captured and questioned by Star-Lord and Nova, and shows that the vibranium bullet blamed on Wakanda is a cheap imitation. After hidden Skrulls turn on the fleet, the three revive the Xandarian Worldmind, learn the Inhumans are behind the plot and fight their way onto the Fulcrum; afterwards she keeps the Inhumans' role secret at her brother's request, telling a frustrated Nova that her loyalty is to Wakanda rather than to justice.¹²¹²²²³²⁴

Notes from the archive

The Marvel Fandom wiki notes that Shuri is vegan, citing War of the Realms #3 (July 2019), the issue in which she builds weapons with Tony Stark at Avengers Mountain during the invasion of Earth.¹³⁰
Her comics title after returning from the Djalia, Aja-Adanna, marks her as Keeper of Wakandan Lore, and the wiki gives its meaning in Wakandan as "the Ancient Future".¹¹⁶
Her age in Black Panther (2018) is disputed: the MCU Wiki notes that producer Nate Moore described her as sixteen, while Letitia Wright said Shuri is eighteen in the film.²⁸
Promotional pictures and posters for Avengers: Infinity War show Shuri in battle dress, but she never wears it in the film itself.²⁸
