Origin, the comics by era, abilities and recorded feats.
Origin
Thor is the son of Odin, ruler of Asgard, and the Elder God Gaea, born in a cave in Norway. He grew up in the golden realm beside his adopted brother Loki, a Frost Giant's child whose boyhood envy hardened into a hatred that would last for centuries. As a boy he was promised Mjolnir, the uru hammer forged by the dwarves Brokk and Eitri, which Odin enchanted so that only a truly worthy hand could lift it. Thor spent years chasing that worthiness, and a youthful quest with Balder and Sif taught him that the hammer answered to a pure heart rather than raw strength.
Power made him proud. When Thor broke a truce and stirred up trouble once too often, Odin took back the hammer, wiped his son's memory and sent him to Earth as Donald Blake, a medical student with a damaged leg. Blake became a gifted New York surgeon and quietly fell for his nurse, Jane Foster. On a holiday in Norway he fled from the alien Kronans, the 'Stone Men from Saturn', into a cave where a plain wooden cane lay waiting. Striking it against a boulder turned him into Thor and the cane into Mjolnir. If he was parted from the hammer for more than sixty seconds, he changed back into Blake.
Blake only learned the truth behind his double life in Thor #159 (December 1968), when Odin explained the lesson in humility he had arranged. Within a year of his debut Thor stood among the founding Avengers in Avengers #1 (September 1963). The Marvel Fandom wiki also records an earlier, Golden Age appearance of Thor in Venus #11 (November 1950) and adds that issue's artists, Don Rico and Hy Rosen, to his creator credits, but the hero as readers know him begins with Journey Into Mystery #83.12345
