Origin, the comics by era, abilities and recorded feats.
Origin
Sue and her younger brother Johnny grew up on Long Island in an ordinary household until their mother Mary died after a car accident; their father, the physician Franklin Storm, could not save her. Franklin sank into drink and gambling and eventually went to prison after shooting a loan shark in self-defence. The children moved in with their aunt, who ran a boarding house, and Sue increasingly found herself raising Johnny on her own.
As a teenager Sue fell for one of her aunt's lodgers, the young scientist Reed Richards, who soon moved out because she was distracting him from his work. The two kept in touch and became a couple, and she later studied at Columbia University on a scholarship. By the time they were engaged Reed was building the Marvel-1, a starship meant for a distant world, and Sue followed him to Central City, California, bringing Johnny with her.
When the military threatened to cut the project's funding, Reed resolved to launch the prototype himself, and Sue and Johnny insisted on flying with him and the pilot Ben Grimm. The cabin was not shielded against the unexpectedly intense burst of radiation they flew into, and the ship had to crash-land back on Earth. Each of the four came out changed; Sue found she could turn invisible, and she took the name Invisible Girl as the four became the Fantastic Four.123

Capabilities
Bends visible, infrared and ultraviolet light around herself or others, hiding up to about 40,000 cubic feet at once while still seeing normally.1
Projects invisible force fields from 1 mm up to domes miles wide, tough enough to briefly withstand blasts from Galactus and the Mad Celestials.1
Fires her fields as concussive shockwaves that push crowds back, wreck rooms of machinery and once blew a hole through Hydro-Man's chest.1
Rides force-field platforms through the air and uses precise fields to lift heavy equipment, take machines apart or set bones.1
Can form fields inside a target or object, knocking people out, blocking arteries or blowing Doombots apart from within.1
Her fields shut out psychic powers, once stopping Jean Grey's telekinesis and keeping Psi-Lord from reading her mind.1
Trained in judo by Reed and in staff fighting by Iron Fist, and secretly trained as a S.H.I.E.L.D. covert agent.1

Cosmic rays bombarded her on the Fantastic Four's space flight; Reed believes her power is energy drawn from the higher dimension of Hyperspace.1

Notes from the archive
- Jack Kirby gave the character the first name of his own daughter, Susan.1
- Fantastic Four #11 (1963) answered real criticism of the character on the page: Sue reads fan mail doubting her usefulness, and her teammates respond by recounting her rescues and throwing her a birthday party.6
- Before Vanessa Kirby took the role for Marvel Studios, Jessica Alba, Sue in both of Fox's 2000s films, advised her to enjoy playing the part as much as she had.37
